Killeen ISD takes ‘first step’ toward layoffs
Described as a "first step" by school board president Mike Helm, the Killeen Independent School District declared a state of "financial exigency" this week, setting the stage for job layoffs and program reductions in the face of revenue cuts estimated between $16 million and $39 million.
The declaration was made Thursday night following a 90-minute executive session between KISD trustees.
